The J1 is the first model from this family and it arrived in February, the handset costs only 90 dollars, being created especially for those parts of the world where the minimum wages are very low and people can’t afford to buy flagships. The Galaxy J3 will come in December and it has a larger body and better specs.
Designs and Displays
The Galaxy J1 has a small body which is perfect in any hand, measuring 129×68.2×8.9mm, it’s very light at 122grams and it’s made entirely of plastic with a glossy effect, which is available in three variants of colors: White, Black and Blue. The screen uses TFT technology and has a size of 4.3-inch, but you won’t be bothered by the low resolution of 480x800pixels, which gives a pixel density of only 217ppi.
The Galaxy J3 comes also in three variants of colors, but instead of blue, it has a gold model. Also, the body is larger, measuring 142.3x71x7.9mm, which means that you’ll get a bigger display with a diagonal of 5-inch, but the panel is Super AMOLED and the colors are more vibrant and sharper thanks to the higher resolution of 720x1280pixels at 294ppi, also, the phone weights 138grams.
Hardware
The Galaxy J1 came with a Spreadtrum chipset, which isn’t found on too many mobile devices, and the processor was very weak, having two cores clocked at 1.2GHz, which were backed by a Mali-400GPU and 512MB of RAM. The internal memory was very low, supporting a capacity of 4GB, which won’t allow you to install too many applications or games, but you can save your photos and videos on the microSD card slot which has a capacity of 128GB.
The J1 is still running on Android v4.4.4 (KitKat), while the J3 came loaded with Android v5.1.1 (Lollipop) and inside it you’ll find a more powerful Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 quad-core 1.2GHz processor which is backed by 1.5GB of RAM. Its internal memory supports expansion up to the same capacity, but at least you’ll have more space to install applications, because the built-in storage has a capacity of 8GB.
Cameras and Batteries
The J1 doesn’t have very advanced cameras, but they take average quality images. Their resolutions are 5MP on the back and 2MP on the front, but the good news is that you’ll have a LED flash and autofocus, two important features. The J3 comes with better cameras of 8MP and 5MP, but the features are identical.
The 1850mAh battery of the J1 is removable and it lasts only 10 hours when making voice calls on 3G. The J3 will have a much bigger battery of 2600 mAh, but, for now, we don’t know how much it lasts.
