Microsoft Lumia 950 XL vs. Google Nexus 6P – What’s Your Favorite Phablet?

In November, Microsoft has released a new pair of Lumia devices, a smartphone with a smaller screen and weaker specs, and a phablet which stacks up against the biggest names from the market. One of its biggest rivals is the Nexus 6P, which was launched by Google with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed.
Designs and Displays
One of the phablets has a plastic back and a less premium look, offering only two variants of colors: black and white. Also, it’s thicker than its rival, measuring 8.1mm, while it weights 165 grams. This is the Lumia 950 XL, which has a rear camera with a large circular lens, while on its front side it has a built-in iris scanner for authentication.
The Nexus 6P comes with a full metal chassis, it’s much thinner at 7.3mm, but its body weights more, 178grams, and Huawei managed to obtain three colors out of the aluminum material which was used to make the back: the standard aluminum, graphite and frost. At the top of the back is a wide black band with a glossy effect, which contains the camera on the left corner and under it sits the fingerprint scanner.
Both phablets have a 5.7-inch AMOLED display supporting the same resolution of 1,440×2,560pixels at 518ppi and they benefit from Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.
Hardware
The Lumia 950 XL and Nexus 6P have the same hardware configuration, being equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset which supports an octa core processor clocked at 2GHz, an Adreno 430 GPU and 3GB of RAM. However, the Lumia 950 XL runs on Windows 10 and it benefits from a microSD card slot which facilitates expansion from 32GB up to 200GB, the Nexus 6P offers three variants of fixed internal storage: 32/64/128 GB.
Cameras and Batteries
The Lumia 950 XL uses a 20MP PureView rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics and support for OIS and triple-LED RGB flash, and supports 1/2.4′ sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size and 4K video capture with OIS, while the front camera has a resolution of 5MP.
The Nexus 6P has a better front camera of 8MP, while the main camera was built by Sony and has a resolution of 12.3MP with 1.55 micron pixel, dual-LED flash and laser autofocus.
The battery of the Nexus 6P is larger, but not removable and its capacity is 3,450 mAh. Microsoft allows you to replace the 3,340 mAh battery unit once its life starts decreasing, the two devices have in common a USB Type-C port for fast charging.
