Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are Getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

Samsung has started rolling out the latest version of Android to its Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge flagships, on February 15. Soon, more Galaxy models will be upgraded, but the manufacturer will announce the updates schedule for each device, depending on carriers’ requirements and the region where the users are located. Besides the new features added by Google, Samsung has provided new edge screen features, but more about them we’ll tell you below.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow – New Features
Doze and App Standby
The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge don’t have the biggest batteries, as their capacities are 2550mAh and 2600mAh respectively, which means that they don’t have a long life and over time, these phones will need to be charged more often, because the batteries can’t be replaced. The users who install Marshmallow on their devices will take advantage of the new feature named Doze, which will help conserving power by restricting applications’ access to network and CPU-intensive services when the phone has the screen off and it’s not connected to a power outlet. Moreover, App standby will stop applications from draining power when they’re not used.
Now on Tap
By pressing and holding the home button, you will get relevant information that’s related to what is on your phone’s screen, at that time. So, if you’re chatting with a friend and he mentions the name of an important building, Google will provide ratings, the physical address etc.
Better App Permissions
Previously, applications were automatically accessing parts of the device, such as the microphone, camera or location. This infuriated the users who were worried that the developers of these applications can gain access to important data stored on their phones. Google has introduced app permissions, which means that now applications will ask for permission to use these components.
Fingerprint App Sign-in
The Android users will sign into applications using their fingerprints just like their fellow iPhone users.
Samsung’s Special Features For The Edge Display
The manufacturer has managed to double the amount of space applications can use on the sides of the display, running now at 550 pixels wide. Also, there are new applications that can be accessed from the edge display: stock, news and sports applications, but there’s also a new torch app, a ruler and compass. Moreover, the users will access up to nine customizable edge panels and tweak them based on their preferences.
