Step-By-Step Guide On How To Downgrade or Uninstall Windows 10

If you have recently upgraded to Windows 10 by installing it on your machine, there is something that you can do to reverse this situation.

You can downgrade and return to a previous Windows version and use it instead of Windows 10. Some of the versions you can restore on the machine include Windows 8 and Windows 7. If you think the new Start button on Windows 10 is unattractive or that Cortana looks creepier, here is what to do to downgrade Windows 10:

1. Prepare for the Downgrade

Ensure that all files and folders in Windows 10 are properly backed-up. Use an external hard drive for this task. Carbonite and Backblaze are two cloud-based tools that you can use to back-up the data on Windows 10 prior to downgrading.  Ensure that the product keys for Windows 7 or 8 are nearby just in case you need them when installing one of these Operating Systems. 1. Go Back

Fortunately, going or rolling back is a much easier process that does not require technical expertise or experience in installing, uninstalling and reinstalling previous Windows versions. The steps that you need to make to go back to Windows 7 or 8 are:

• Opening the Start menu
• Choose the Settings button
• Go to Update and Security
• Click on Recovery

You can determine your eligibility for downgrading by looking for the “Go back to Windows 8.1” or “Go back to Windows 7” commands. If you fail to see such options, then know that you are not eligible to downgrade. If you see the options, click and follow the prompts to the end. After returning to your preferred version of Windows, do not be afraid to customize its setup according to your preferences.

Eligibility Period

After downgrading, you might have to reinstall some of the older programs that can only function on Windows 8.1 or 7. If you had a different password on the reinstalled previous version of Windows, this is the best time to retrieve and use it for signing in to the OS. By following these steps, you will not have to uninstall and reinstall the older version of Windows. It is worth knowing that you can only downgrade 30 days after initially installing Windows 10.
