Biometric Match – The First Biometric Social Network
As Beta Testing has begun on the worlds first biometric social network, what can be expected from this new platform? Will users someday be able to “send” a feeling to a friend? The answer is: YES.
What we think, how we feel, and our general opinions about what we are experiencing are registered in our brains, transmitted to our body, and displayed through our biometrics.
Biometric Match founders Dal Ellington and Ding Wang have just released a Social Network Platform in Public Beta which incorporates biometric feedback from members. The structure is similar to Facebook, but not yet as sexy. Through web cam capture tools, the site is able to analyze facial cue biometrics as users watch prepared stimuli videos. The team is now building in heart rate and breathing rate analysis tools as well, all captured from web cam.
The short stimuli videos are structured to peek emotions such as love, fear, stress, calm, humor, and arousal. Videos may contain images and language of an adult nature, but nothing explicit. Sexual content is rated PG-13 but language may sometimes be R- rated.
Users receive a biometric feedback portrait as well as a list of biometric matches from other users. Individuals data is shared only with the user who can then choose to share and compare their data with their matches, friends, or groups.
Dal was the researcher behind that study and will be incorporating some of the same tools into Biometric Match in the future; for users of mobile EEG readers such as the NeuroSky Mindwave Mobile.
So what does all of this mean?
The two largest road blocks for the integration of social biometrics are the lack of standardized stimuli and access to biometric analysis that require no specialized tools or training. Through a standardized stimuli video library along with web cam and mobile capture biometrics, Biometric Match solves both of these problems.
Do you empathize with the sound of a crying baby or get stressed out? Does your heart race at the site of a roller coaster or do you display joy? Do you think off color jokes are funny or just rude? These metrics are not only a powerful tool for finding matches for couples, friends, and groups; but as these biometric signatures are identified they can be put to work for us.
Imagine in the near future a parent wearing a bracelet that will vibrate when his/her child, in the next room or on the other side of the world; is stressed, crying, or in pain. Imagine a teacher wearing a shirt that can identify in real time, which of her students is understanding the lesson and which are completely confused. Social Biometrics will allow us to transmit our feelings and emotions to physical devices in the real world. If you want someone to really know how you feel, you will be able to add them to your Biometric Feed. If you want to feel your mothers surprise when she opens her Mothers Day gift, you can add a Biometric Request Tag to the package. If your mother scans the tag with her phone and accepts the request, you can store that surprise and feel it when you get home from work.
These are the future realities that the team at Biometric Match have in mind as they lay the foundation blocks for the world of social biometrics.
